Since my baby came two weeks and one day past my due date, I didn’t give birth in Moderhuset MAIA. However, Moderhuset MAIA was with me through the last stage of pregnancy, and for me it was the only one source of introduction to the world of natural birth among many other wonders, and that I’m incredibly thankful for.
This is my son’s birth story: On a Friday at exactly 23:00 I heard a sound of a champagne bottle being opened and a strange pain. I made it to the bathroom when the water came gushing out… 10 minutes later we were out the door, although I was taking my time thinking I have lots of hours ahead of me. Very shortly after at the hospital, contractions got intense and I really wanted epidural. I was so disappointed at myself for not being able to deal with the birth naturally but I couldn’t find enough time between contractions to recuperate my strength for the next one. The midwife said epidural will come in 30 minutes, so I went into the tub and was trying to deal with contractions which seemed like one contraction with no break.
Soon after, the midwife checked my opening and said there is no time for epidural, that the baby is on his way out. I asked how many more hours I have to bear this pain, and the midwife said about 10 minutes. Quickly after I felt three contractions with an urge to push, and Julian came out at exactly 01:13 with the 4th ‘pushing contraction’.
Looking back at it now, 6 weeks later, I know to value even more the natural birth I had and the work of Moderhuset MAIA that ultimately encourages women to believe in their body and its existing strength.
